Paddle with Loons

Join ACLC staff for a paddling tour of an Adirondack lake to visit with some of our study loons!

With an emphasis on small groups for responsible wildlife viewing, join us to learn all about loons while observing them in their natural habitats.

*As of right now, we do require participants to bring their own boats. Rental locations listed below.

**Every effort is made to locate and view loons, however, because loons are wild animals and their movements are not controlled, there is always a chance that we will not see loons on a guided paddle.

2025 Guided Paddle Schedule

$75 per person includes a two-hour experience with a Loon Center guide + a free t-shirt + free gift

  • 10 am - 12 pm on Thursday, June 19 (rain date Friday, June 20) at Little Clear Pond

  • 10 am - 12 pm on Thursday, July 10 (rain date Friday, July 11) at Little Clear Pond

  • 10 am - 12 pm on Thursday, July 17 (rain date Friday, July 18) at Little Clear Pond

  • 10 am - 12 pm on Thursday, August 7 (rain date Friday, August 8) at Little Clear Pond

  • 10 am - 12 pm on Thursday, August 14 (rain date Friday, August 15) at Little Clear Pond

September and October dates coming soon!

*Guided paddles require a minimum of two registered paddlers and are limited to 10 paddlers. Kids 10 and under riding in a boat as a passenger are free.


2025 Special Event

Wildlife Photography Paddle

Join wildlife photographer Andrew Hudnut for a special wildlife photography paddle! Andrew welcomes photographers at all stages of their craft to join him on the water for an early morning or evening paddle to capture the best light while learning about loons and receiving tips and tricks for responsible wildlife photography.

These special event paddles are $150/person and include a free t-shirt and gift.

  • 6:30 am - 8:30 am Saturday, August 9: Wildlife Photography Paddle (rain date Sunday, Aug. 10)

  • 6 pm - 8 pm Saturday, August 9: Wildlife Photography Paddle (rain date Sunday, Aug. 10)

    *Location TBD, but will be within a 20-minute drive of Saranac Lake, NY.

Photographers of all levels are welcome. It is recommended to have a lens that zooms up to at least 300mm, as well as a dry bag and/or a camera poncho to help protect gear from water.


Book a Private Paddle

Private paddles for at least two people can be booked with ACLC biologists as their schedules permit. Please email education@adkloon.org for more information about private paddles.


 

What to Bring

  • Canoe or kayak and paddles - please plan on transporting your boat to the lake. See below for local rental companies.

  • Life jacket for each person (required to wear while paddling)

  • Water bottle and snacks

  • Binoculars and/or camera

  • Hat and/or bug protection

  • Water shoes

  • Rain gear and/or windbreaker
