Fishing Line Recycling Program
To address the growing threat of accidental fishing line entanglement to Adirondack loons, in 2013, the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation established a fishing line and lead fishing tackle recycling program throughout the Park.
The presence of fishing line recycling containers at Adirondack boat launches and fishing tackle stores will help increase awareness about the detrimental, and often fatal, impact of abandoned fishing line to wildlife, and hopefully decrease the amount of abandoned fishing line and lead fishing tackle in Adirondack lakes.
Fishing line recycling containers are provided to lake associations, fish and game clubs, fishing tackle stores and other interested groups throughout New York’s Adirondack Park. Additionally, our "Loons, Lead, and Line Don't Mix" brochure is available for downloading here.
If you find abandoned fishing line or tackle, please recycle it in one of these containers.
